Default Seams or not seams. Your opinion.

Just getting ready to put the new bumpers on and since there fiberglass I was wondering if I should fill the seams or not I wouldn't mind see pics of seams and no seams and see what the benfits are either way. Your opinions please.

I havnt done any fiberglassing on a c3 but Ive done ton of custom and repair stuff before. The main problem is if it cracks it will be at the seem 90% of the time. NOw if you do go seamless I promise it will look 1000x smoother then a c3 already looks. Personally id go seamless and fiberglass both the outside seam and the inside seam with fiberglass mat not the weave. Put a few layers on both sides and sand smooth and fill as needed.

Seamless looks nice, but I prefer the factory look of separate pieces.

Seams.

What makes you think you can improve on the looks?

Seriously, though - I'm a stock kind of guy, so I like the seams.

It's up to you - do what makes you happy!

I am a 100% stock guy when it comes to Corvettes. But , I hate to admit, on a custom car no seams would look nice ! Smooth ! I've seen some custom Corvettes that looked pretty nice....even though I wouldn't have done it.,

i molded in my front and rear..no seams.... alot of work to get the lines to match up and to have it all lay flat...... if you do it, rememder to "v" groove the bumper and the body and lay resin and matt for the first few layers..... it's tricky and you will get fustrated but will look nice once done right...... i did most of the body work on my 77 and primed it to see a few flaws but i'm going to have my painter/body guy tweek the rest out.......

My rear filler panel was seamless. I had reason to remove it, destroying it in the process, and discovered why...

The new one will have to be seamless, I suppose.

im not sure why, but i really prefer the lok of the seams, the seamless look is a little offputting for me

Personally, I'd vote to stay with the seams. Think about what would be involved if you took a tap on the nose and it cracks the paint just on the bumper cover. With seams, you pull off the bumper cover, repaint it, and reinstall. With it molded it you'll have to repair the damage and repaint the entire front end.

Seamless definately looks smooooooooth. It makes things look 'clean'.

Then again it would be a lot of work, I have helped a friend weld the seams out of a steel bodied car and that was heaps of work, I don't think working with fibreglass would make it much easier, if at all. Also if you need to fix the area's you have attached, as a couple of others have said, you have just made your job a lot more difficult.

Is your vette a daily driver or is it more of a weekend/show car? If it's a daily driver I think you should stick with seams.

At the end of the day it is your choice, browse the net for shots of seamless C3's and have a good look at them.

ROSSLATO: Nice ride! I see you have a tilt front too, post more pics!

Yeah if its a daily driver might want to go seams but if not go seemless. Work wise can do it yourself for about 40-100$ in materials (not including fiberglass bumpers) and maybe 3-4 days (most of that waiting for stuff to dry really) . I would definetly do a V groove and have the seam look like this V . Then put 2-3 layers of glass on the inside (the flat part) and same with the groove. Fill the goove and when you sand you will smooth it out. Should be a very strong seem this way.

Imagine finding/cutting along that line for replacement.

i like the way the seamless looks but its hard to argue with sb69coupes logic.

Then again - Seamless looks SOOO good...

I think the main question is how hard are you on the car? Let that make your decision. Can't do it here in Pennsylvania. One pothole here could replace my entire seam.

Seamless looks better but what if you have the pull the bumper for something?? Then you are stuck. I could have easily glassed over mine when I put a new one on but I worry about pulling it back off.
I would leave the seams. Well done a seam doesn't take away from the looks.

Well guys thanks for all the replies. Since the car is not my daily driver I will be filling the seams for a custom look. Its not stock. It has been de-badged, factory alarm taken out and the radio ant. shaved off. So seamless it is. BTW love your ride rosslato.

Thanks Guys
