Default did 68's have the under hood insulation blanket?

I noticed my dads not having one so looked in the midamerica catelog we have and didn't list 68-72 it was 73-75 then it listed 76-79.

so just wondering if the early ones had um or not. Surely they did witout them looks like it might cause paint damage.

Hi

As far as I know, the 68 had no insulation. Also my 68 Assembly manual doesn't show one.
I can not see any paint damage to the hood and my 68 is running a BB with headers, so very hot.

Thanks guy I guess the 68 isn't supposed to have one but the catelog also doesn't list one for a 69 yet I have saw one on a 69 that had been fully restored before.

ah who knows...just hope the heat from that 427 don't bubble the paint that would SUCK...

The blankets are there for noise insulation, not heat. Popular misconception.

What I'm talking about goes on the bottom side of the hood and acts as a heat shield from the heat of the motor you must be talking about something else.

No, Mike is talking about the hood insulation that you want information on. Trust us, there is no insulation on the 68 BB's, never was and only will be if you put it on yourself.

I know there not on 68 and 69s but for cars with them surely they're for a heat shield for the hood from what he said thats not what they're there for thats what I was disagreeing about.

I'm actually glad they don't have um one less thing to order!

They came on the 78's for sure.Just collect dirt/dust that drops on your engine when you close your hood.My conclusion is they are noise barriers.GM has them for $120.00 if you want one.But get a good vacuum to keep it clean.

Trust me, they're not for heat insulation, noise only.
