BTW:I switched to polyethylene gas tanks back in my desert biking days.The old metal cans were a pain.I also had a 3 gallon ("desert tank") polyethylene gas tank on my 1974 CZ 400,which I dumped a few times riding to fast.Never a leak.Have a kayak made of that stuff,and drag it over rocks.Darn near indestructable.

But if it's that good, it probably ISN'T what the Vette has in the tank

I knew you were kidding !! After what GM went through over those side mounted tanks in 73' trucks, you would think they got smarter.Wonder when they started this in Vettes? Think I'll "boroscope" mine and see what it looks like inside.On second thought,maybe it will be better being dumb......condroms...ha ha ha.

It is a rubber liner. It is in there in case you are rearended, in which case the idea was to hold the gas, from leaking and possably starting a fire................

When I removed mine, it looked like rubber reinforced with threads like a tire has. About a 1/16" thick. It was still very pliable after 29 years.
