Default Weatherstrip rivets on door frame

Can I just use regular pop rivets to hold the weatherstripping on the rear edge of the door frame? Or do I have to use some special gm corvette only thingy?

I used hardware store ones on mine, seems like they were 5/32" and maybe 1/2" long.
