Default Now an exhaust question.....

I was out measuring for new mufflers. I removed one of the generic turbo mufflers and measured the end of the exhaust pipe, before it enters the muffler. I came up with 2.5 inches.

Now, I've gone and looked at all of the Super Turbo and Ultra Flo muffler sizes at Summit, and most all of them have a 2.5 inch inlet. Out of the hundreds of models, they have one that measures 2.75 inches. They have some 3" models, but I would think that would be too large. I tried to measure the inlet/outlet of the old muffler, but they are too rusty to be accurate.

Forgive me if this sounds like a silly question, but is 2.5" outlet exhaust a rarity? Or is my measurement off?

I just had dual two and 1/2 inch exhaust run on my car. With the headers H pipe and flowmasters i like it.

What size are the inlets on the Flowmasters?

When they say it's a 2.5" inlet they mean it's a "slip on" fit. Your pipe is 2.5" outer diameter, the muffler's pipe is 2.5" inner diameter....

Dennis - do you have the stock tips on the mufflers - and do you want
to retain them - or go custom ? My point being that the outlet diameter
will only matter if you want to retain the stock tips. Even so, a smaller
outlet diameter can be adapted by slipping a short section of pipe over
the outlet and increasing it's diameter.

Looks like the link above shows a 2" outlet is stock.

My exhaust has been modified from stock, so I don't need that extra bend on the inlet pipe. Now, I can go with the cheaper non-custom muffler.

Dave, it has never had stock tips since I've owned it. I was planning all along to add them, thanks for pointing out that I will have to modify them if I want to use them.

Now for the next question: I have heard that most of these turbo-type mufflers can be mounted flowing in either direction. Is this true? They do not offer Super Turbos in center inlet / offset outlet, and that is what I need.

I've done just that, and got my answer: yes the model I am looking for is reversible.

I ordered model # 17733 from Summit. $38.88 each with $25 each rebate = $36.71 for 2 mufflers, including their $8.95 handling fee. Shipping is "free".

Not a bad deal, and they threw a Summit hat in the box, plus $10 off my next order.

Details on the rebate (I called to confirm this): Dual exhaust cars are eligible for 2 rebates. If it isn't stated on your receipt, write down the model and year of your car.

The Ultra Flo's are also on rebate. Check it out:
