Default Input Request on SLP Hyperblack 17x8's (CorvAmer)

When you count the needed adapters for others, this new deal from Corvette America is pretty cheap - $700 a set.

They are apparently a new offering and they relayed me ot the manufacturer to get more info.

These are aluminum cast center numbers, weighing 24#. The salesrep did not know if the outter rim was forged or not.

Anyhow - need to upgrade to something that has Z, W and Y rated things which are scarce in the 15x8" steel rallies currently on there and the cost for some temporary upgrades is important.

Anyone used these or another SLP product? Have some other cheaper or comparitive 17 or 18" ideas? Torque Thrust II's go for $200+ more and I cannot get a straight answer on whether they require the $350 set of VBP adapters anyhow.

Appreciate any input....even from DJ....

hyperblack

i like these

the only problem is that both are only 8" wide. I prefer the performance and look of fat tires.

As far as late model vette wheels, I am scared to run adapters and don't think they are legal for racing.

So what to do? Wait for 10" to come out?

turtlevette, what size tire are you looking at using? 275/60-15's are pretty fat and fit just fine on 15 x 8. I was running 15 x 10's on the rear but just ordered some Bassett wheels that are 15 x 8's and the 275/60's will fit just fine.

I'd like to run 17x10 or 17x9.5

I already have 15x10 rallys

problem with running too wide a tire on a given rim is that the tire wants to roll over. Ain't good for racing.

Default Actually I prefer the aluminum ralley's - they come in 18 also but not 10"

But they are something like $500 each instead of $700 a set....

One thing to consider: a lot of higher end wheel mfg's will make a custom for not all that much more than the base model.

I agree with you on the closely fitted rims. I've seen 11-12" wide meats on 8" rims. I never saw one come off, but I was waiting!

I think the fit matters even more for lots of cornering and such than straight takeoff - unless you are running at 8 and 10 psi in a dedicated drag setup. (At that kind of use I'd want bead locks anyhow...)

Input:
#1 Wrong section for this thread. Belongs in General.(sorry Wayne)

#2 I agree with turtle's choice and also am against wheel adapters.
But I am not crazy about fat rear tires unless they are superwide slicks on a 9 inch narrowed Ford 4-link

#3 Tires hanging outside the wheel well like the ones on Crossed Flags car tend to tear up the fiberglass around the wheel well by throwing up gravel. They will also send a fountain of water up that goes into the drivers side windows if you drive through a puddle.

TT II's don't require adapters. We have so many guys running them, a straight answer should have slapped you in the face! Did you ask here?

Never heard of SLP, but that doesn't mean anything.

I think this is the first time I directly asked about wheels - as I only recently decided the time was really here to change those too.

Half the TTII threads went on about what exact backspacing, someone already having the offset t-arms, somebody else having 92" rotored 16 piston special brakes and so forth.... At the time the impression I got is they may require some fitting - I was only loosely paying attention at the time. One of the guys on CAC mentioned a particular P/N for the ones that don't need adapters when I posted the similar question.
("Akfox" said the correct 17x8's were #5057861, BTW.)

I prefer the TT2's in general - I've been to the site with them several times and will have to go looking for the cheapest deal now before I decide.

....although he wasn't used to them doing vette parts, per se. (He hadn't seen these before and said he'd look into them a little before I took my POS in shortly for getting the rear wheel bearings redone (or at least checked) and looking over this Albatross brand "custom" engine that's still giving me nightmares 7 months after I finally got it from my local idiot engine "builder".)

SLP- A performance product company in my home town advertised nation wide. Big into performance parts and especially mustangs now. They have a dyno at their shop but just for R & D.....
Company also sold titanium parts for bicycle racing, which I have plenty of....

Default Got more infor from American Racing too...

(I suppose this should be a new thread....I guess I'll make one in a sec comparing the Hyperblack data and TTII data...)

Am Rac replied to an email on the 5057861 17x8 TTII regarding weight and load limits and if their 18x8 would fit.

In reverse: They don't know if the 18x8's would fit - recommended trial and measurement (and they'd come from the custom shop.)

(Incidentally, they predicted that model in the 18x8 would be 23# and rated at 1700# load.)

The 5057861 is 19.5# and rated at 1250 # load.
