Default Polish Stainless T top trim?

First of all, my car is a '71 coupe.

I am in the process of trying to polish the stainless T shaped trim piece that is exposed when the t-tops are removed. I bought some stuff (three different compounds) from Lowes and it definitely helped, but is not takng all the scratches out (and I spent a couple of quality hours with a poishing wheel on my die grinder polishing on it). Anyway, this piece of trim has several pretty bad scratches on it where people were careless over the years when putting on the t-tops. Has anyone polished this piece on their car? Do you have any SPECIFIC (name brand of compound used, etc..) advice?

Also, anyone know where I can find the upper left side windshield frame corner chrome piece? (the one that has the nylon bushing that accepts the alignment pin on the t-tops?

Thanks for any help.

Bill

polishing will only take out light scratches. deep scratches need to be sanded out.

Sand deep scratches starting with 600grit paper, then progressing to 1200-1500 grit. THEN buff.

Try Dr.Rebuild site under "windshield" in "A-Z" parts index. You might get lucky...

Bill, I have one but can't check whether its right or left hand until I get home saturday. As you will see I am also based in Scotland, but if all else fails I can get it sent across the pond to you (assuming its the side you want. Drop me an email if you have no success your side.

Speaking of that trim piece...is it supposed to be riveted on in the back? ('78)

Just to jump on this thread for a minute....anyone know what the black gunk is that is between my windshield header pieces? I would like to take them off for polishing, but I would like to know what that stuff is so when I put it back together, I can re-seal it (I assume that's what it's for...but it could be adhesive). This time I will not put so much on that it will ooze out the sides of the trim like the factory did.

I picked some windsheild adhesive from autozone that was real close to what was under the chrome trim and what was in the trim pieces around the wind sheild. The chrome t-top trim and the top piece of the window trim are connected by small clips. Chances are when you remove the t-top trim, the top piece of the window trim will come of to. On my project after seeing some rust under the top pieces ,that snow-balled into full winsheild restoration. sorry i dont remember the product name, but it came in a roll in a square box, sticky stuff

Butyl rubber for windshield install ... readily available at retail auto stores.

The corner molding is NOT available at the moment. GM stopped
making them. Apparently, the molds became bad and the pieces
produced had a bumpy rash on them. I got one like this (pass side) from a
reputable dealer in CT - which I am returning. Paragon is planning
on reproducing these parts ... available early July (last I checked).

Anyone got a close-up of the Ttop stainless piece at the rear ?
My 75 piece looks like it was rivetted. The new 70 rear clip ... no
provisions. I think the piece changed with chrome bumpers.
Anyone have a pic of the early years ?? Thanks
