Default Lowest-possible-profile air cleaner

I'm getting a Performer RPM really cheap (thanks AVGI), will have to keep my q-jet for now so will also have a .70" adaptor. I doubt even a drop base will let me close my hood.

Is there something even lower? The foam Edelbrock triangle seems pretty low and cheap (but I know everyone here hates them). Someone here has a wide dish-shaped one (looks like a shiny flat UFO) that looks really low, can't find it at the moment though.

Ideas?

The Edelbrock drop base filter might work, you could put a 2" tall filter in it instead of the 3".....

Holley makes a nice low profile unit, but it ain't cheap. (check out HLY-64280 at summitracing.com)

I have one of the Edelbrock triangles. It fit really great under the hood and it looked pretty good too. Unfortunately the first backfire blew holes through the foam. I gave up on using it until I can find a place where I can buy the foam by the roll instead of bying the Edelbrock pre-cut foam pieces at retail prices.

Now I use a small round Holley air cleaner, cost about $20 at Advance Auto. Even then, its wing nut put a hole in my hood pad (the clearance is that tight).

Yeah I saw that Holley deal, for the price of that I'd just buy a new hood with more space!

Thx for all the ideas, I'll try a drop base with a 2". If that doesn't work I can probably rig up something like that Holley with 20 bucks worth of stuff from Home Depot

I've tried a lot of air cleaner bases, and the best one (with the biggest drop by far) has been the L46/LT-1/L-88 drop base. It's for Rochesters, put with a couple of dimples with a ball peen hammer it will fit a Holley style carb pretty easily.

Default edelbrock

used an edelbrock dropped base with a 2in k&n filter also used k&n top filter with chrome edge gives you more air than just the 2inch filter I have the permastar edelbrock manifold and edelbrock card and still have some clearance .

that cool looking little Edelbrock triangle air cleaner will give you LESS clearance than a standard drop base air cleaner! If you don't believe me I have a worthless one for you! See if the carb fits without an air cleaner at all. Only way I could get more clearance was to use a 2" element, and that was hard to find in 14" diameter.

I had a moroso drop base with a 2 inch filter. Gave me the clearance I needed. It is pretty pricey though.

I bought the air filter from Ecklers and modified the base with out damaging the chrome edge.
