Default question about aluminum wheels

a guy i know was tryin to tell me that i should stay away from polished aluminum wheels because they are too much work to keep shiny. he said i should go chrome because then all I'd have to do is give them a wipe once in a while, whereas with polished aluminum Id have to polish them every couple days and if not theyd oxidize real bad. but I like the weight savings of the aluminum plus all the good wheels are aluminum. I dont want some phat chrome rims for SUVs on a vette. Ive never had aluminum wheels so pelase tell me how much work they are. thanks

Best of both worlds. The aluminum wheel from the late 70's that are chrome plated. I am thinking about getting a set.

Most polished aluminum wheels have a clear coat that protects them so its just normal maintenance.
Aluminum can be chromed now, in fact I have seen the late 70's aluminum wheels chromed, they looked sweet.
If you are going to polish the wheels yourself you could spray a clear coat on to protect your work, or just give em a quick polish every few weeks.

I just wish there was a way to have them chrome and hae the red stripe that the pace car wheels have. Now that would be sweet.

Default Question About Alumium Wheels

Get a Mothers Power Ball, some Power Metal polish and a microsoft towel. My wheels look almost like chrome. I clean them with a spray of water and the microsoft towel.

Once you get the old clearcoat off these rims you can polish them with any chrome or aluminum polish. I polish mine once every 4 weeks or so, sometimes only because I'm bored

The shine is easy to maintain, maybe not as easy for a daily driver....

Weight savings ? One lbs of aluminum is as heavy as one lbs of steel, keep that in mind.... the steel rims are made from thinner material so they could be as light or lighter than aluminum rims...
