Default Show me your H-Pipe!

I'm about to bring my car to an exhaust shop and would like to bring a pic to show the general location of the H-Pipe to be installed. Shop owner has Vette experience, but insists the H-Pipe must go toward the rear. I know I've seen some on here that were somewhat in the middle of the car.

My car is '74 auto, SB, lowered w/2.5" Allen's exhaust.

Thanks in advance...

The original owner brought this Vette in from Arizona to Calif with this set up.Little known is GM in 78 had planned to have duals with two cats...but feds shot it down...that is why in on 78 Vettes, there are two exhaust opennings in crossmember,,guess he thought it was a good idea...As second owner,I thought it was a good idea to and never got caught at smog checks....I have a 2-1-2 system now...with 3" high flow cat..2 1/2" pipes/mufflers out back...

You can put it a little behind the crossmember, that's the way it is normally done w/ headers.

The 76 & 77 Chevy manuals mention duals for Corvettes & the 77 has a pic. w/ no cats.

The H-pipe also was installed just aft of the trans crossmember on the '80 L48. I had installed the 700R4 conversion so I am not sure if that contributed to the placement or not. I believe there would have been ground clearance issues if it had been run ahead of the converter cover or before the rear trans mount.

This is my 3 inch crossover in a 3 inch exhuast. The crossover could have been 2 1/2 and worked just as well. It is directly behind the crossmember

What kind of improvement can I expect from an H-pipe?

It's supposed to help with resonance and exhaust "popping". Not sure if it helps w/performance, however (at least not in my case).

That is called a ball and socket joint. It is what is on mine and PRNDL cars. The same shop did both of our systems. It allows the system to be unbolted and taken off the car. I'm glad I did this as I have had it off many times for other work.

That's what I was planning for. Shop just wanted to weld in the H-pipe.

Why different locations in the crossover between your car & PRNDL's?
