Default If you cut your springs...HERE!!

Hey guys I am needing to get a idea of how much to cut my front springs.

*** KEEP in mind that I am running a LS1 w/o A/C which would be 125-150lbs. lighter than the standard small block chevy with iron heads.

My current front end height is 28.5 inches from fender to ground. (trying to get 27in maybe less)

I spoke with Vettebrakes tech line they said the 550 springs gives you a inch, that may only give me about 1/2 to a 3/4 of a inch. That will not do for a set of 79.00 springs.

Can you guys list the number of coils you cut and what the ride hieght is now to give me a idea.

Also what end of the coil did you cut? Bottom or top?

Cut the bottom so you can still line up the upper part with the upper pocket.

The only way you are going to get it to sit exactly where you want it is by trial and error. Pull the spring, cut it, drive for a week, then repeat if it doesn't sit low enough. I have had my coils out 2 times so far and I am going to pull them again soon to cut off a little bit more. Good luck.

Currently I have 15X4 skinnies on the front. But I will be changing them in about a year or so to 17 inch wheels.

Still working with the hood.

28.5 inch OUCH!!

@ 26" WITH STOCK 15X8'S, I think 5/8 coil was plenty for me. Everyones results will very and tire/wheel selection will vary the results as well. I would suggest starting with 1/2 coil and cut more if needed. You can't stretch the spring back out to gain heigth back

Point well taken... and true each combo will be different. especailly mine running a ls1. I will let my tech decide. Beside me has a spare sets of springs off a 65 vette.
