Default 1978 front clip measurement favor

Hey, can someone do me a huge favor and measure the span from the inside of the front clip closest to the windshield, to the other? This is on a 1978. I measured 46".

My hood looks like it isn't properly aligned. The gap between the hood and fenders widens as it gets closer to the windshield, on both sides. I know the car's been hit in the past and has a front clip from another car. Can I realign the front clip, or does this indicate the whole frame is wacky?

TIA,

Corky

I'm confused a bit about your description, can you post a drawing of what you need? I may be able to help

Thanks a ton!!

...the gap is about 5/16", and less as it moves toward the front of the car.

I just got another hood, but have yet to install it. I did, however, measure the width of both hoods at their widest near the windshield. They were both 45 7/16". Maybe my old hood is warped or misaligned or both. It really is in rough shape.

I'll let you know how it turns out when I get the new on one.

Your welcome..but you got me curious.. so I measured my hood width...it is 45 3/8" (only 1/16" different than yours) Ideal, your gap should be 1/8" to 3/16" both sides..At some point I'd use a 1/8"-3/16" thick piece of wood (balsa) to check gap when you are aligning the hood..it is easier than measuring the gap with a tape measure...also,you should end up with a 1/8" gap across the front....good luck
