Ok, I dont think its so much being an Idiot...that not what everyones trying to say here I think. Its more a grand focus Zen kinda thing

I can see how cool it would be to have your car voted coolest car and get in the yearbook, and for a highschool senior.. hey thats pretty sweet.

But in the grand scheme of things...it will only be a few weeks out of school when you realise that it really isnt much of an ambition, and that it really isnt terribly important.

ultimately you got a sweet car...maybe not as fast as the camaro...maybe not as cushy....probably a lot less bling...the point is you have a classic, and whoever wins this silly little popularity contest probably wont own that car 5 years from now....

maybe you can win "drove same car to reunion, that he drove in HS" at your 10 year.

Dude don’t even worry about it, in 1983 my VW bug to my amazement was voted coolest car, and there were vettes camaros and porches in the parking lot. An the funny thing about it all is I wasn’t even into that (I was a nerd). So I am sure it pissed off the owners of the "real" cool cars, I just did my thang. Keep your car, and enjoy it, it is interesting to not that the next year (my senior year) I got my 68 and I didn’t get "coolest car" with it. Thought it was kind of funny that I did get it with my bug but not with vette.

Sounds like you have the right idea...fear not & worry not because YOU have the classier vehicle by a long shot; I go thru the same thing at bike shows when a stock BIG DOG or such places higher than my '67 old school chopper; most people have little appreciation for classic stuff;
congratulations &best of luck with your Vette!

And Hey, look at resale. In a few more years, who will get the best return? Glad to see you realize overall, the vote isn't that important, later on. Keep up the great work, get advancements, earn more money, put it into your car, and one day go back to your reunion and show them all who has the coolest car at school! Just look at this site and see what is cool. You are a part of this. Jump in.

When I was about 19 I had already been through about 20 motorcycles, 2 Corvettes, a MG midget, and a Porche. My Porche was in the body shop so I picked up a Ratty looking 55 Belair, put a 300hp 327 in it, dual exhaust, 750 Holly spead bore double pump with vacume secondarys, and proceeded to blow off '75 Vettes (no insult intended). I got decked out one Friday night and ran out of gas on my way to the club, got the 5 Gal can out of the trunk and started to walk and hitch hike down the road. Two really sweet girls picked me up and took me to the gas station, flirting all the way. When they took me back to my Rat their faces turned white. My point, the car was,is and always will be for me and I really don't care what other people think. Chicks want a provider no matter how they act. A car only gets them if it illustrates affulence or the ability to achieve it.

Relax. The only reason the '95 Camaro won was that everyone in your school thought your Vette was a Camaro too....just an older model.

I'm shocked at how many of my 15 year old son's friends ask me kind of car my '68 Corvette is when they visit for the first time. If they haven't seen it in Gran Turismo, Test Drive, or Grand Theft Auto, they can't identify it.

Let's see, you have a 74 Vette roadster and your friend has a 95 Z28 T-top and you're both in high school. My heart goes out to both of you. Your lives are very tough.

Co-incidentally, I happen to have a C3 Vette (69 427/390hp) and a Z28 (2000 LS1) and I would guess the Z28 would kick hell out of the Vette in a drag race. The Vette, however, is worth about five times as much as the Z28. Both are great rides.

When I was in HS, I had both a 65 Fastback Mustang (which I still have) and a 76 Chevy Luv pick-up. To be honest, back then, my Chevy Luv got a lot more attention that my Mustang. My dad and I had converted my Luv into a hotrod of sorts. We yanked the 4 cylinder and dropped in a small block chevy with headers. (had to cut out the wheel wells and make new engine mounts for the 305 engine) We also chained the front of the engine down, added an aluminum HR intake, 4 bbl carb, and a nice cam. The truck would actually bark the tires if I idled across a pavement parking lot. In addition to the bigger engine and hood scoop, I had a narrowed rear-end, wide tires, 350 turbo Trannie, B&M speed shifter, and I recall it being a 4-10 rear end. Cosmetically, the truck was metalic mid-night blue, had black leather interior, and a nice stereo.

On the other hand, my all original 65 Fastback 2+2 received only minimum attention. It has a 289 and a 4 speed.

Which of the two vehicles do you think I am the proudest I held onto? You guessed it, the Mustang. If you look at the value of all original 65 Fastbacks, you can clearly see I made a wise choice by selling the truck and keeping the car after I got of HS. When I was in HS, it was all about how fast I could burn up some tires..... Now that I am out, much older, and even a little wiser, it is a no brainer. Stick with the older muscle cars. The Vettes, The Mustangs, and yes.... even the older Camaros.... just to name a few. Sure...newer cars might out run them... but chicks dig old muscle cars.

By the way... I wanted both a Ford and Chevy Muscle car.... that is why I went out and purchased a 75 Stingray. In the future, I plan on adding another Vette to my list of toys... I like the 58's as my dad used to own one.

One last thing, the advice someone gave about getting an education.... Take that advice. If you plan to play with expensive toys (old muscle cars) you will need a good job.

If there's a will, there's a way. Inside or outside. Nice warm hood on a slightly cool night, it doesn't get any better than that.

Back on topic. I wouldn't worry one bit. If the other kid had a nice 69 Z-28 or RS, then things may be different. To me a Camaro is a poor mans Vette. Nice car but not a vette!

"Specialist" leather underwear with the studs on the inside? Battery acid? Sitting in Baby Oil for long periods? Being groped by a female body builder? Lighting your farts & getting blow-back?

I saw my first Vette when in HS (Don Garlits car) & wasn't able to afford one until I was 40! Sort your priorities out, winning a popularity contest is meaningless bollox, but having a Vette & the freedom you have at HS makes you a very lucky man. Enjoy it & do as Norval says & you may be OK in later life (it's far from guaranteed). Even more important than that is to make the most of all the women In years to come you'll look back with fond memories of how the interior of the Vette was completely destroyed when you got lucky with the county gymnastics champion, or the time when that double-jointed yoga student managed to.......

Sounds like your self worth is all tied up in your car. You're not the only one here who has that problem.

As stated by others, worry about your education. There will be many car shows to attend in your future but only one chance to get an education that no one can take away. I high school I had a 67 Mustang GT Factback that need some work. I was also a hood (you know a problem child). It wasn't until a couple of years after high school that I figured out I need an education to get a good job. I did make it back to school an got an engineering degree. I have spent the last 20+ years having the time of my life developing mobile equipment. So stay focused on your education, that way you can aford a great life doing things you enjoy like owning a vette. Good luck with the car show, I hope you kick butt. Can I say that here?
