Default Anyone know what this thingy is?

I don't have a picture. It's a cable running from up by the firewall down to the Automatic transmission linkage and then up to the steering column. It has been severed at the tranny and intentionally disconnected at the steering column. The corvette is a 76 automatic. Could it be the car alarm?

Very commonly disconnected because it hangs up &/or gets sloppy. Either way you're jacked cause it won't go into gear till you get out, open the hood, lay on the ground and mess with it till the gear selector works.....Not a good way to impress the ladies......
