Default 7000 rpms in second gear.........what a rush!

I recently swapped to an Isky flat tappet solid cam in the 406,and have been babying it do to lack of confidence in my 700r4 trans. This afternoon on the way home,I pulled on to a rural back road on the way home, and for whatever reason.....dropped my Megashifter into second and gradually feed the gas.No major blast, just a gradual acceleration. The next thing I know I'm taching over 7000 rpms....so I let off the gas slightly and pop into drive.I'm doing like 75-80 mph and the engine wasn't even straining. What a rush!I'm now 100% sure I have the receipe for transmission disaster if I row through the gears at 7000.

Nice ride! Nothing like some high rpms to get the blood flowing.

My 406 moves thru the gears pretty fast. I opened it up on the freeway to catch up to a sweet custom bike -- before I new it I was 100+. I whispered "wow" to myself.

I am building a 400 with a eagle crank and lunita aluminum 5.7 rods . Did you have to clearence the block when you built yours?

Default Whooow!

Good to hear the results.

Wow, 7k and with a tight LSA too. I bet its got a truck load of torque through the mid-range.

I can c future performance builds using a solid cam - mostly for the reliability. I still have vlv train noise that could well be lifter noise - used a sethiscope and sounds maybe like hyd lifters on p-side. Ain't noth'n more reliable than a solid lifter. With zero lifter collapse more top end pwr is expected than comparable hyd cam. For a weekend cruiser, why not a solid cam?

I need to follow this combo to the track or dyno. cardo0

I did not clearance the block, but I'm using Scat steel rods. The aluminum rods are bigger, and in my opinion not needed on a street engine.
The torque is strong from 4000 up,not quite sure I like the low end with the Vic Jr yet. I had the RPM intake and had way more low end than now. But I fried my trans fairly easily,so I figured I'd bleed off some torque with the single plane.
