my t-top flew off on the highway
all right, i was on long island visiting a friend, i leave her house at 2:30 am and hop on the highway, i start hearing more wind noise then usual and then WOOSH, my drivers dside t-top goes flying away, luckily the highway was a ghost town, I slammed on the brakes and pulled over, got out went and found it, best part, it wasnt shattered and it still fit on my car, put it on and drive home the rest of the hour trip, still havent inspected the real damage in the daylight, i guess i dont want to accept having to buy a new t-top

That's a bummer but it could've been worse. Hopefully the damage isn't too bad. Are your T-tops glass?

It could have benn worse, you could have been trying to remove the T-top while driving down the road! A certain person I know tried this because a cute girl on a Mardi Gras float was trying to give him some beads. Well when the guy tried to take the top out at abut 45 MPH it nearly sucked me uh-I mean him out of the damn seat . Made me stop and think a little about the price of a set of beads as opposed to the price of a t-top. Gave me a whole other reason to wear my seat belt. I'm just thankful the steering wheel was tilted way down, I would have looked funny cleaning out my pants on the side of the road!

oh it was worth it, though it was one of the more scarier nights of my life, her parents and her brother were home and her bedroom doesnt have door locks, so i thought i was going to die, im not a small guy i can defend myself, but her brother is a black belt in karate, so i would have been dead if he caught us

Ironic... I was cruising near Long Island early in the morning, and out of no where this T-Top comes flying at me. I ran off the road down a little hill, and observed the owner stop, pick up his t-top and take off.
Tell you what... buy me another C-3 and we will call it even
(kidding of course)
Sorry to hear about your t-top... but it could have been worse... you could have been in heavy traffic.

on a more serious note....how does that happen? If the t-tops are not locked in place, well, you can tell by the way it doesn't fit right?

with the condition my t-tops are in, they can have them,it will give me motivation to buy new ones, but i doubt it, the windows were up and doors were locked, no way to reach the latch

Be very thankful it wasn't a glass t-top. My driver's side top flew off last Thanksgiving while I was en route to dinner with friends. I'm very thankful it landed along the side of the interstate instead of hitting another car, or worse, making a bunch of other cars wreck. And.... yours won't cost you over $600.00 to replace.

Same thing happened recently to a friend in his '80 (is this an '80 problem?!). It flew way up into the air & he was looking in the rear view mirror for what he said seemed like an eternity before it came into view as it crashed down onto the road & exploded into pieces (glass top). He didn't bother to stop for the wreckage (that'll be a pair of tops @ $1200 + shipping + 10% duty on the total + handling fee + 17.5% VAT on the total. Ow, ow, ow). He reckons what happened is that the latch had loosened & eventually undid itself as the car went over bumps, so has fitted those latch lock things to prevent it happening again. I've just adjusted my latches so tight that it takes a real effort to undo them.
The road where it happened is normally very busy & it was just luck that it didn't hit anybody. As it flew so high up in the air it came down with a lot of force & he reckoned that if it had hit anybody then they'd have died
Trying it on with your GF while her black belt brother is in the house? That ain't a good idea
