A few years ago I was having some problems with mice in my outbuilding. One afternoon while in there, I heard some faint scratching noises coming from the area where the cars are. I tiptoed over to where it was coming from, and figured it was mice in the floor drain crock scratching at the underside of the grate. I had found nests and removed them there before. I picked up the trouble light on the floor nearby and quietly leaned over the drain and clicked the light on. There in the floor drain crock was an oppossum staring up at me! Scared the crap out of me! I almost dropped the trouble light.
That stupid thing had crawled up about 40 feet of 4" drain tile to get in there. The last thing I thought I'd ever see in that floor drain was that rat-looking sucker. He was probably still slithering out when I poured the bucket of water I had sitting in the other room down the drain. Within a couple of days I buried the exposed end of the drain tile into a stone bed. I still get mice in there occasionally, but I don't even care- I'm almost happy to see them.
