Default tach filter on 76? location

Where is the tach filter supposed to be on a 76? Is it supposed to be mounted on the intake by the base of the dist, or under the dash somewhere??

...the original location is attached to one of the coil bracket mounting holes for pre-'75 cars. It would be slightly left of the distributor, slightly towards the front of the car. Looks like an old points condensor, but has a wire coming out both ends...

okay, that is what I thought, I don't have one, so I suspect that might explain my "bouncy" tach. I assume it just goes inline from the "tach feed" on the HEI.

Yes One end to the tach... one end to the distributor tach send & debending which filter you buy one wire to ground.
