Yeah, I've got the magazine...the Z06 hadn't been released yet even when this was published, let alone when they actually had the even. Notice that the only mustang had been tuned. Only stock cars were the viper, vette, lambo and Ford GT. I think the vette held its own against some very stiff competition.

the LPE 1000+ rw hp C6 twin turbo was supposed to be there but at the last minute cancelled due to clutch issues. this would have been a really fast car at this test with the C6 having the same power as the viper but with better aero.

That's exactly why I got into my first one mile drags two years ago. It's really a test of HP per pound and aerodynamic drag. I had a modded Z06 guy that always wanted to race for what ever money I wanted to bet.
When the green flag drops the BS stops. He got the jump on the start which was good. That way he couldn't claim bad start. I passed him just about the time I was shifting into 3rd gear @90 mph and 7500 rpm. From there to the one mile marker I was leaving him. Who knows 20-30 car lengths at the end of the one mile.
What he failed to understand was his car had 405 hp plus a few poneys from intake and exhaust mods. I had 383 ci of high winding solid roller cam and maybe 100 or more hp in a lightened and more aero 79 Vette. It wasn't even a contest.
