1969 was the best all around year for just about everyone, Chevy, Olds, Pontiac, Buick, Dodge, Plymouth and Ford. As far as best looking Chevelle goes it's a close call between the 1969 & 1970 SS, but I would have to give the edge to the 1970 Chevelle SS 454 with the cowl induction hood. That car in my opinion has a timeless look to it and is absolutely georgeous.

Although 1970 is a very, very close #2.

1967 saw the introductions of the Camaro (including the Z28 and 396/375hp SS) and the Firebird (400 convertible), and started hitting it's stride with "mass produced" (limited quantities were available in 66) horsepower and performance options including:

- Corvette L88s
- W-30 Oldsmobiles
- Grand Sport Buicks (Skylarks and Rivieras)

Also was the last year body style for the classic C2s and Chevelles.

And the first serious introduction of the "tuner" dealerships (i.e. Yenko).

1967 by a nose.

How can you all forget the 63 model year. Yeah Chevy had alot of good years and you will get many opinions on the subject. Everybody thinks the one they are driving is the best. 1963 SS Impala, the Split Window Vette (UGHH UGHH). I'm showing my age but I would give my right arm for a 409 Impala. My day had one and that is the vehicle I got my Drivers License In.

I say 1969. Best Vette, Camaro, truck, Caprice, Nova not half bad. 1970 for Chevelle though.

and ive NEVER undestood the 70 chevelle. worst chevelle ever! even the 71, 72 are better. the 69 was a way more beautiful car, and i dare you to find a better looking drag car other than a c3. as for the 69, 57 comparo. i think its all in what generation you are from.
My friend and I, who are only a couple months apart in age have this debate often over the best looking Chevelles. I say '69, he says '70. It's like the debate over "tastes great" vs. "less filling". The '70 Chevelle had a truly fast option in the LS6 but looked fat and bulky to me (tastes great). The '69 didn't have the LS6, but it did have the 396/375 and the COPO's, as well as a slender, streamlined body style that looked like it was going 100 mph even when it was sitting still (less filling).

the years '67 - '70 were totally awesome years for the entire industry. Having to choose the best year for Chevy, I would say '69.

The 69's were the high water mark. The smog and safety rules, that were to devastate the mid 70's with low hp and heavy weight increases, began to creep in in 1970 and rapidly get worse.

The 69 high horsepower engines, the "classic interiors;" chromey stuff in the interior not molded padded plastic, also affordability, and ease of maintenance.

Affordability? The age group of buyers of 1969 Corvettes were a lot younger than the age group of todays Corvettes.

I think 67 is best all round

The 67 Novas & Chevelles are some of the cleanest looking cars around and the bodies were still pretty compact. Not as much power as the later models (in stock form) but much sweeter looking IMHO

If I could have any vette it would be 67 roadster, though I think the C3s are still the sleekest cars ever made.

Redc3, you have a strange opinion. I would vote 1969 based on several things. ZL1 Camaro and vette, for one thing. The Camaro is considered by many to have the best styling of its kind ever and it was only for that year. The L88's changed to open chamber heads. 1969 had the most deadly and beautiful corvette ever. Based on the vette and Camaro alone, 1969 wins hands down. The question pertained to Chevrolet's only. If it included other brands, I think 1970 might take the nod.
correct me if im wrong. " LACK OF PERFORMANCE "?? wasnt 70 the first yr. with the ls6 454. chevy rated the vette version 5 hp. higher even though they where identical. and im sorry about the 70 chevelle. yea it had a great engine option, but my god that car is futt bugly. horrible lines, grill, dash, tail lights. have always disliked that car. ive always felt the styling went backwards from 69 to 70. the 69 was a beautiful car with lines to die for. that 70 was a blocked off brick turd. ya cant polish them turds ya know!

1969

ZL-1s, L-88s, Z28 - 302s, Tri-Power 427/435s, 350/350s, Convertibles in the Camaro, Impala, Corvair, Chevelle, and Corvette Lines. Factory side pipes on C3 Corvettes!!

Is any other year even close???

he said 1957. ok, the 57 bel aire is a classic and the vette was sweet to say the least. and yes the old trucks were pretty cool. but to me, 69 is hard to beat.

what do you guys think?

Well it looks like most folks are saying "69", but I would have to say "55", introduction of the 265 (V8) which changed performance forever.................LT

Bro the ls6 or ls7 was not in a corvette that year. They only put the ls6 in the as you would say futt bugly chevelle.
