Default Fiberoptics

Presently looking to get a C3. Some years ago a friend of mine had a late 60's or early 70's C3 that if I remember right had a number of fiberoptic cables in it. Is this correct? What were they used for? Do people restore them or replace them with something else when they break?

fiber optics were on 68-71 vettes...usually if they dont work the fiber optic lines need to be replaced... they will no longer work if the lines transmitting the light is no longer one complete strand

i need to repair them on my 71, seems like I remember something about radio shack having the cable. all my lenses and holders are ok and the one for the license light still actually worked after 34 years.

I remember having these on my 69. I think that they were located on the shift console, and were used to indicate if the turn signals were on, or the running lights etc. They are not an essential part of the lighting system, meaning that the lights would work without these units working. They were more of a indication that the turn signals or backup lights were working or functional.

Since the fiber optic system requires no power or has no moving parts, it works forever unless something breaks one of the bundles. A very clever system really. Mine still works fine...

All of mine work too and are an interesting feature, best viewed at night. Nowadays when you mention fiber optic cables you think gigabytes of high-speed data transmission, but back then it was simply "your light bulb is working."

Aren't these cars great?
