Need Help missing trim tag on 72 vette
I just bought my first vette, a 1972 LT1. I bought the car as a driver and was told that the engine was a NOM. The problem is the trim tag is missing and I was wondering if there is another way to find out the build date and the original color. The car is now Maroon, but after contacting past owners I was told that the car was at one time blue. Any help would be great

I think from the vin you can narrow down the body build date that would have been on the trim tag. (So the vin indicates it was an LT-1?) Maybe not 100% sure of the exact date, but probably to within a day or 2. Original paint and interior would only be on the trim tag, or the original window sticker or other sales documents. I think it would be on the tank sticker (not sure). Otherwise would require detective work, like looking for original overspray or original paint that maybe wasn't removed during the repaint. Of course if you are having a replacement ("restoration") trim tag made up... does it matter? This will be your chance to choose the original paint color that you like.

...the last five digits of your car's VIN is your car's sequence number. Your '72 will fall between #00001 to #27004. 27004 Corvettes were built in 1972. By info being published on how many Corvettes were built each month, your VIN sequence number can be pretty much narrowed down to a day or two within the day it was built.
