Default Going to visit St. Louis - anything to see at the old plant ?

Was curious if there is anything to check out at the old Corvette plant in St. Louis. I am going to be there next month for a few days.

Thanks

Derek.-

...from what I've read here from other people who live in the area, there is just an empty parking lot/field?

I live in SL now. I have a little extra knowledge of that area, as I go to the area on business up that way regularly. If you must see it take i-70 to Union, and it is down close to Goodfellow. However, there is nothing that would identify it as the old plant. It has had a face lift, and you would never be able to tell what it is. Be advised that you will need to be armed (Heavily), and do not stop to talk to anyone. Otherwise you could just go over to Mid America, about 60 miles east of SL, and get your picture made in front of the new, old plant sign. This is much safer.

Mid Amreica is worth a stop...they have vettes on display and an old "gas station" where you can grab some pics...

That's our 78...

Oh, for crying out loud. It's a rough neighborhood, but it isn't Sarajevo. I used to volunteer at a food pantry about a mile away, and I drove through there all the time on my way to work if 70 was backed up. Just use common sense if you want to drive down there, you don't need an UZI for self-defense.

I agree, but still be careful!! Not the safest place to be in St. Louis.

I live in Detroit - so its not a shocker. But if there is nothing to see - than I probably won't make the trip.

Not to start an argument or be pissy, but I have to strongly disagree with your observations. I used to be a St. Louis City cop and know the area well, not everyone is going to robbed or worse, but why take the chance. IT IS A BAD AREA....................LT

I will have to agree and disagree. SL is not that bad (only about the worst according to DOJ statistics for violent crime, and only second or third, to you guessed it, Detroit.) However, in the recent years we have beat Detroit for this distinction, they edged passed us 2 years ago in Murder, Robbery, and Rape. However, we had a 15-20 percent rise in violent crime last year, and it was due to the gang and drug violence in the neighborhood that the old Corvette plant is in. As I said, I may have just a little extra knowledge about the area, I would steer clear. Ltinnel, what district?

Spent 5 years in the 9th and 5 years undercover in the T.A.C.T. unit. I remember when the vettes used to be parked in the lot at Union and Nat. Bridge and we were getting calls all the time for vandalism to the cars.......LT

I used to live in midtown - in fact, one of your former co-workers unloaded his 9mm at a suspect one night when I was nearly in a line with them, about 300-400 yards away, separated by some trees. I just got my groceries out and walked inside. Maybe I'm just a little more hardened to the city than most.

Amazing how we allow the ethnics to terrorize our once great cities and turn them into third world battle zones. I hope we wake up someday.
