Default Will GM mexican blocks accept straight bolt pattern starters?

I have the GM standard aftermarket block (el hencho in mehico). Does anybody know if it is drilled for both the staggered starter and straight bolt pattern starter. I have a starter from an L98 corvette and wanted to put it on.

I must be missing something here. You have the block and the starter correct? Why don't you see if you can bolt the starter to the block?

I don't know, maybe it's not that easy.

Oh well.

No. Will not work. You have to have a Mexican starter, too...

If that doesn't work try using the crooked bolts Anyway even if it doesn't have the dual pattern drilled into the block you can always change the "head" on the starter you have. I'm sure thgere is more to this than what you are letting us in on.

Default My Huevos Rancheros block..

has both straight and offset holes.

Offset is for use with the 168 tooth flywheel.
Straight is for use with the 153 tooth flywheel.

They are not interchangeable.

Different starters for different flywheels. Block does not matter. The L98 starter is for the small flywheel (153 tooth). I am using a late model BB starter with my 168 tooth flywheel. Works great.

I don't know why everybody is . The zz4 block is also a taco block as well.

Some of the aftermarket starters have the straight pattern with 2 sets of holes drilled so the starter will work on the large as well as small flywheels.

Somebody said here before that the newer vette starters would work.

My ZZ4 block was henchoed in Mexico. I bought the ministarter recommeded for it. The ministarter had two pairs of holes drilled into the mounting block (or the ministarter). One pair was for the small diameter flywheel and the other for the larger diameter flywheel.

Same here and another cool thing with mine is the way the starter mounts to the mounting block. You can rotate the solenoid in relation to the engine/headers to get a little more room to help with the heat saturation issues.

turtle-were you just asking a general question or is there a specific reason you want to use that starter you have?

I can second that revelation. My Mehico made block has all three holes. And Tony may be right as i tried a GMPP "mini" - made in Japan - that just would not work with my 168 tooth f/w - though advertized for both patterns.

turtlevette u can look in my signature link to see my starter delema.

i bought it on ebay some years ago during a brain fart. Its been sitting around because i was thinking the same thing.......It won't fit.

Then i thought i saw a thread sometime back where somebody used a late model vette starter as a bolt on instead of an aftermarket ministarter.

But i'm glad i gave everybody a chance to rail on me for a bit. Payback is a bitch.

And a Mexican Radio!

If you want a gear-reduction mini-starter for a 168-tooth flywheel, get the GM BB502 starter. Not cheap, but it works great. Not sure why more people haven't figured it out.

Not cheap is right, one I'm using, cost me around 200.00, but worth every penny.

If you go to Japan and buy a starter there the label on the box says made around the corner. If in mexico the label says stolen around the corner.

I checked out what Autozone had and settled for this one at $129. Lifetime warranty and came with 2 bolts that they charge 10 bucks for on the alterstart site. Add 10-15 dollars shipping and its about a wash. You have the added convience of being able to run 10min down the road to Autozone and swap a bad one out.

I bought mine at discount for like 30 dollars.
