Almost ready to drop, but ran out of energy/beer. Got the flex plate, fuel pump, distributor, plugs and wires, cleaned up the pully's, and put the carb on!! Still have to cut the old exhaust pipe out of the way and change the seal at the torque convertor. It doesn't go nearly as quick as you think it will. Maybe in a few more weeks I'll get her in!!

Still not in. Just taking care of the "small" things. Dang near ready however!! Had to run down some new motor mounting brackets, then had to cut the exhaust pipes out of the way for the headers to fit, and now I'm working on the gas plumbing. The motor is however ready to drop now!! Already got the carb mounted and rejetted. New fuel pump is on. Still gotta replace the front tranny seal (will take about 5 minutes), and start hooking everything back up, put the radiator back in, triple double check all the fluids, put the battery back in, and so on...... and on........
I'm a bit concerned about the headers. The collector end is awful close to the firewall???
Soon....

I thought you said the cam was hydraulic roller? 268h and XE268 are both flat tappet.
I have the 268H in my car with the stock heads. It has a nice little lobe to it and seems to run pretty well. I'd like to change the heads to bump the compression and see what happens.

Update: Of course new crate is in! Got the headers to go in from underneath but had to dimple them pretty good on the pass. side where it was hitting the steering knuckle. Of all things the PITA of the day was the getting the transmission dipstick back in where it came out.....geeezzzzzzzzz........Only one way in, and one way out. The oil dip stick was a pain as well having to take it out to put the headers on, then having to blindly try to put it back in a hole that you can't see. The transmission vac line wasn't fun either, but wasn't as bad. Oh, also broke a plug off, but than god it was on the ceramic part!
Now it's on to the fun stuff.....hook up fuel pump, power steering pump, alternator, all the wires and vac hoses, put the rad. back in.......and blast off hopefully this weekend in which it will probably be raining.
Thanks for the help guys, I'm getting close to shredding some rubber!!
Note: Don't ever pull this engine without taking the transmission with it. What a pain in the **** to take at least 5 minutes to screw in each bell housing bolt. (no room). Pull the tranny with the motor folks!!

Not the tranny bolts......The bell housing bolts!! They are up against the firewall, and you can't turn the wrench but about 15* each time. No other way do it, other than pull the tranny with the car so you have some room as I suggested!! Lesson learned!
