I Need A Favor--Dipstick Measurement--1979 L-82
Drained the oil in the L-82 today...didnt seem to be enough in the container, but the dipstick showed ample oil.
This is the first oil change since I have had the car...havent really driven it...just spending money on it...getting close to being an awsome driver.
I would appriciate a good measurement:
from tip to 0-ring/bell seal.
over-all measurement from tip to end of handle.
A dipstick tube length measurement too (from block to end).
Just to get a good idea of its the wrong dipstick or tube...or if its something else...like oil pooling in the head or intake valley.
Thanks,
Jim

Mine is a ’78 but should be the same as a 79’, I think. When I have 5 quarts in it reads a little over the full mark, to the end of the "FULL" on the dip stick.
tip to 0-ring/bell seal is 22 and 1/4”.
dipstick tube length measurement (from block to end) is 9 and 1/4”.
I am not to sure on how accurate this is because the engine is still hot so I just stuck the tape measure down and eye balled it.
I did not measure from tip to end of handle.
Hope this helps
Jim.

Had these in my "box-O-Parts". Off my black 79, replaced with chrome(!!!).
That's 19 7/8" from the top of the shoulder to the full mark, 9" following the curve from tip to block surface side of knurl on tube.
I must have waaay too much time on my hands .

Thanks ya'll/Mike....thats exactly what I needed.
I couldnt start it to check it correctly...one; battery is disconnected...two; I am in the middle of a rear diff rebuild and driveshaft is just hanging.
Lets see; got all the interior torn to peices, seats out, new carpet tommorow(today), ES graphite/poly bushings going in, tranny service, new gauge bezel cut for a DIN radio, new console, more heat barrier (already some old stuff there), new power antenna installed, romving tons of Bubb'rized wires and parts and whatever else you call what he did....just tons of stuff getting done since the weather is nice...gonna remove the emissions crap too.
AND...the kicker....I think I found a diamond...it looks to be real...not sure yet...will know more during the week. If its real, it'll be about a 1.5 to 2 carats...I bit on it; its definatly hard, no tin on the bottom to give the diamond appearance...I thought I would find weed under the carpet...lol
thanks again,
Jim
