Default Anyone with Gear Ratio Calc?

I would like to see if I truly have the stock 3.08's. I'm running 2400 RPM at 60 MPH. Thanks for the help.

formula is:

RPM = (MPH x 336 x axle ratio) / Tire diameter

Your 2400 at 60 for a 3.08 would work if you have a have a tire which is 25.9 inches tall which is shorter than stock tire, but could be correct if you have a shorter tire.

Tire diameter can be computed by taking the width number (such as 225) divided by 25.4 x tire profile number expressed in percent (such as 60% for 60.70% for 70 ,etc.) x 2 then add diameter of rim

225/70/15 tire is 225/25.4 = 8.858 inches wide x 70% x 2 = 12.4 inches plus 15 inches for the rim = 27.4 inches

In using this calculation, I ended up with 3.26. The car is supposed to be matching numbers though, at least until I got my hands on it. Is there any other way to check? Do they have some type of number on them?

the differentials do have a set of characters stamped at bottom.

My 71 has AAW137E2 and the AA means 3.55 for 1971. The codes very by year, but if you find the code on yours, someone can tell you which it is. (I only have book that covers 70-72)

I have a 71 as well. I'll see if I can find the number and get back to you.
