Coolant in oil - what causes this?
I just popped off the valve cover to take a look at my lifters - nothing seems too out of whack but there was some coolant in there - not much but some....the mechanic who worked on it replaced the water pump -
where would coolant be coming from? Is it possible that the water pump change may have splashed some coolant in there or do I have a bigger problem.
I'm guessing my oil is now contaminated.
Just pulled the other cover - coolant in there too.
Blown head gasket?
I'm going to change the oil and run it a bit - then check again.

Blown head gasket or cracked head. I've heard you can crack a head by adding water to a radiator with a hot engine that's not running and then starting it up. You didn't do that before you got the new water pump installed? Not sure if that's an old wives tale or if it could happen. Either way, it seems like the coolant would be in the oil pan and not under the rocker covers. Hopefully there's a much simpler (cheaper) cause.
