Default 1969 VIN Codes (part of a series)

Please Note – this is NOT going to be 100% accurate. Numbers changed, I coulda mis-typed, but this is the best I can do as a back yard mechanic to help you out. This came from 3 different books, and I tried to put all 3 into one page for ya. Please look for the book CORVETTE BY THE NUMBERS for more accurate information. Thanks.

1969 Corvette

DECODING THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

VIN # is stamped on the inside of the A pillar windshield.
Convertible Vin #’s were 194679S100001 TO 194679S138762
Coupe Vin #’s were 194379S100001 TO 194379S138762
Symbols, Letters and their meaning:
1st Chevrolet
2nd and 3rd Body Series (94 = Corvette)
4th and 5th Body Style (67 = Convertible, 37 = Coupe
6th Symbol indicates Year (9 = 1969)
7th Symbol indicates Assembly Plant (S = St Louis)
The last six symbols are the production numbers.

1968 – 1978 Corvette Trim Tag ID
Upper right corner is body build date
A = Aug 1968
B = Sept 1968
C = October 1968
D = November 1968
E = December 1968
F = January 1969
G = February 1969
H = March 1969
I = April 1969
J = May 1969
K = June 1969
L = July 1969
M = August 1969
N = September 1969
O = October 1969
P = November 1969
Q = December 1969
The Second and Third numbers were the day of the month that production of this car started.

On the left side is a word TRIM followed by the following:
STD = Black
407 = Red
411 = Blue
427 = Green
420 = Saddle
416 = Gunmetal
402 = Black Leather
412 = Blue Leather
416 = Gunmetal Leather
421 = Saddle Leather
428 = Green Leather

Just right of that is the word PAINT followed by the following:
900 = Tuxedo Black
972 = CanAm White
974 = Monza Red
976 = LeMans Blue
980 = Riverside Gold
983 = Fathom Green
984 = Daytona Yellow
986 = Cortez Silver
988 = Burgandy
990 = Hugger Orange

ENGINE CODES
1968 and 1969 consist of 7 characters:
1st is Assembly Plant
2nd and 3rd are Assembly Month
4th and 5th are Engine Code Suffix

Assembly Plants (Some engines produced at some plants were used in other cars.)
F = Flint Motor Facility (No Corvette Engine this year from this plant)
K = McKinnon Industries (No Corvette Engines this year from this plant)
S = Saginaw Service (No Corvette Engines this year from this plant)
T = Tonawanda
V = Flint Engine Plant High Performance
