Today I found my tank sticker (71 LT-1 Conv) after reading a thread from fotyfobravo (thanks again). He found his on the right side (behind pass seat). The one time I looked for it I concentrated primarily on the left side with no luck.
Well today I checked again with a little more diligence to the right side and was thrilled to see about 2 square inches of it which were in very good shape. I will drop the tank in the next couple of weeks and see what the rest of it looks like.
I think I am going to replace the tank and just store the original one keeping the sticker intact and obviously protected. What do you guys think. Thanks
Congrats Document the tank removal with pics....just in case in the future should you want to sell you'll want to be able to prove the tank & sticker came from your car.
I found my tank sticker also 69 (427/435, side exhaust,4:11) its nice to be able to verify the options. Did yours list the dealer zone code and dealer number. Mine was zone 32 Dealer 583, President Chevrolet in Quincy, Maine. I got this information from the NCRS site.
I will document it with pictures. I have not been able to get a good look at it yet. All I can see is where it says Corvette Order Copy however the borders all look great.
I was able to find it with just a tiny flashlight and shining it way down on the tank. I hope to be pulling the tank this week and I will pass along the info as well as pics.
so you just looked under the car with a flashlight and saw it? man I know now I would have to get mirrors....I don't get it how did you exdactly go about seeing it you had to do something different then just look from the bottom of the car.

You can see it from the top, not bottom. I have a 69 427/390 and can see mine on the tank. I haven't dropped my tank yet to see the condition (I only have had my car since 92 and still haven't done it). I can see mine by opening the gas cap and carefully pushing down the rubber seal. Then with a flashlight I checked and there it was! Its hard to see the condition but its intact. I also want to get behind my dash and see if the other build sheet is there. Many owners found them there. I am pretty sure about my car being original so I never really worried about droppong the tank but I guess I should do it before the thing ends up rotting away.
What a great find! I bet you're really happy. If you want to have your car correct and original or just to know what you really have this is the document to have. I would imagine a great load off your mind when replacing parts on your car.
I only wish I would be able to have such a document for my '73 LS4 so I really really know that what I am doing to her is right.
I have had this car for almost two years, the car has been in this area since 1980 and the car is well known from the previous owners in the Corvette Circle so they can give me some imput on the car. It was restored about fifteen years ago and everything including the gas tank and interior have been removed and replaced, but no build sheet to this day.
Your a lucky fellow.
One of my Corvette buddies found his build sheet on his '72 LS5 and most of it was not legitable so he used some type of filter on his home computer for picture clarity after he transposed the build sheet image from the photgraph to his home PC.
yeah and can anyone let me know where, or on what side you can find the build sheet under the dash??? I have a '68 base model and I dont think the dash has ever been replaced. Is their an easy way to find it under the dash??? thanks
if you do push on the rubber around the gas fliller neck it won't mess it up? I thought it was sealed down guess not though.
Mine was not attached to anything. It is just formed rubber, I don't think any are attached. It goes right back to shape.
As for the dash, as far as I understand, not every car has a sheet under the dash. Some workers on the assembly line just crumped them up and threw them behind there as they would assemble the car. It was probably a matter of just being lazy and not having time to find a garbage pale to throw out the paper, but thats just a guess. I know of some cars that had 2 sheets behind the dash for whatever reason. And some that didn't have one and I know the interiors was never apart. I never checked behind mine. It could be anywhere on any side under the dash. Taking down the dash is a major pain in the ***. I might try to look under there with a flashlight if thats possible. I'm not a small guy and thats gonna be a bit tight to try and accomplish.

Oh well, I guess we can all dream of finding one of those pieces of "gold". thanks man!!

I looked at it from the top. I just pulled the rubber back from the filler neck and I saw it (only a few square inches) near the middle right side.
