Gold Stories
On my own I've been studying the rules and I ask a lot of questions at the event over the years, but I'd like to hear from people who have actually done it, or tried it and it didn't go well. Any lessons learned? What surprised you? Would you do it again?

What do you want to know?
Judging is quick...about 35 minutes per car for everything.
No BG judging guides exist.
Have you done any NCRS events? Judging is very similar.

I'm very (very) picky on my cars. Specifically the two I'm considering for certification because I would love to try it. I know every little flaw, and I'm trying to get a better understanding of how "every little flaw" can affect judging. The goal is try to decide if I should go for it this year, and do what it takes to be ready and stress out a bit, or, chill out and just drive to the show and enjoy. I'm on the fence.
Example: 1986 Corvette Pace car vert, decals, yellow, etc. (I know this is a C3 forum, C4 has not been eligible for Survivor for that long so I'm thinking I would get better comments in here). The Pace car was originally purchased as a collector, 6K miles, all documentation. I have very high confidence this car would cruise past Survivor, and might likely get gold. Never in rain, climate controlled garage, basic exercising, etc.
I'm trying to decide what I need to do to get it ready. Flaws are:
1) LR quarter has a slight (very slight) scratch. Maybe 1 inch. Not sure what to do about that.
2) Bezel around radio has some strange discolorations like something was spilled or splashed on it. Prof detail could not get it out. Thinking of replacing with OE.
3) Vert "clear protective strip" has slight scratching from the two pointy guide posts. That's why the strip is there, protects the paint, but there are scratches.
4) Transmission is acting up. I have a trusted mechanic that can take care of that, waiting on the weather.
Outside of these things, and detailing the undercarriage, the car is (in my opinion) factory perfect. I think it will pass, but I'm trying to decide on the confidence scale where I should be. I think scale 1-10, I'm pushing 8/9.
Based on the archives and the specific mention of NCRS judging, plus your comments above, that may be a great first step to getting my feet wet.

I do not claim to have all the answers however I have been through it. I would be glad to help you anyway possible. Ask away or send PM.
