Would that be better? Another forum has it I go to and it has better quality post in the section.

Yes, split the forum even more. 
Then have a OT section a gen section and a tech section in there too. Make the cut off 6 years.

What with the moving of all the threads? Depending on how you use the Forum, the general section dumps you at the TECH section?? So what gives? No big deal but you got too check 3 different places. Oh well

I could understand maybe having all the sponser discount codes being restricted to memebers that have been here a while, that would make it fair so people just wouldn't join just to get the discounts.

But it's not like you could never see there post or talk to them
The way it is right now doesn't really bother me. But I was just wondering if this would help solve other peoples issues.

OK, now I see one of the ideas that you may be referring to. If a person can join just to get access to the sponsors and discounts, then it really is not fair to the sponsors. There should be some involvment with the forum in terms of discussion, contribution, etc. to validate the discounts. Otherwise people would sign up, and be gone.
But from the sponsor point of view...would they really care? Anything that increases business in the form of revenue would be good for them. And maybe most of the people on the forum are not continually buying from the sponsors anyway. So they would need new customers to come in and purchase, irregardless of the time on the forum.
So I changed my mind after I typed this.
