First little cuts on vert conversion.
Lyle: I'm using a soft folding top. In the pics I posted at the first of this thread, you can see on the birdcage slotted holes. Believe it or not, this is where the soft top frame bolts up. I am using used parts whenever I can come up with them. Some of the old parts seem to be better made than some of the new aftermarket stuff getting sold cut rate.
Chevy69: I'm relying heavly on a fellow member justforfun on this issue. He's done exactly this conversion and described his windshield frame modifications. You can actually drill the spot welds out and seperate the T bar part of the birdcage from the windshield frame.
Actually, I have justforfun to blame for all of this!
I had considered doing this, but figured I'd be out 4 or 5 thousand dollars. In a thread I think was last year, he stated he thought a fellow could this conversion for around $2000. I was amazed! I was also completely misinformed, thinking I'd have to change the frame, the windshield frame, the whole rear pan......etc. His help and answers lit a fire under my butt and I started slowly collecting parts. I think I'm at a point I can confidently say I'll be able to have the car in primer and on the road mid summer.John
I seen a poster for the Columbus Corvette Club car show they have every year. The shows indoors in the Fair Oaks mall. I'm not a member or anything, but last year those guys had 35 or 40 nice 'vettes up and down the hallways there. Last weekend in April, I think. I know I always enjoy goin' and checking things out.
Drive safe!
John
Keep up the good work on the conversion.
