I'm rewiring and need pics of the factory routing for a 1970 350. I know the 1,3,2 and 4 wires go down and through/around the motor then to the pan and up the side of the block in the back.
Pics of all of this in particular routing through/around the motor mount, through the 'boomerangs' and around/behind the starter would be appreciated.
Sorry I don't have access to a camera right now but I can tell you on my '72, the plug wires went through the motor mounts. I had to take the boot off the distributer end of the wire to get them through there. Also, those boomerang shields are heat shields -- not ignition shielding for the radio. All cars should have had them. The wires end up going between the starter and the block if I remember right. I had to loosen the starter to install mine. Hope this helps.

This is why so many of our vettes, including mine, don't have the shielding any more. It's a royal pain in the a$$ to route the wires the original way.
The V shields mount to the block and (I seem to recall) the lower cable brackets on each side. Plug wires slip inside the V shields. LH V was on my '68; RH was not. I did not put the LH back on. I run only the distributor can/lid and have never had stereo interference. Never had interference with can and lid removed, for that matter.

For me its not an issue of cost but more of why I bought the car. I purchased an unfinished project and I'm trying to get my car as close to the way it left general as possible. Kind of a personal achievment type of thing.
Most of my car is close with the exception of a few details.

I hear ya. That's my goal as well. Just saying why so many are missing.

I don't disagree that it is a pain but in my opinion, it looks so much nicer with the wires routed as they were stock then having them hanging out everywhere.
I like the stock routing. Just consider replacing the wires when the engine is out. Put the wires on before you drop the engine back in and they are no problem at all. Use the Delco wire and you might not ever need to replace them again.
My '80 has 4-hole looms on both rear corners of the block, (2 )boomerangs, 2-hole looms between the wires at the ends of the boomerangs and it also has (2) steel 2-wire retainers (one per side) down at the oil pan near the bottom of the "V" on the boomerangs. AIM shows this pretty well. Not sure if your '70 has the same setup or not.
They are a bee-atch to change with the engine in place but with a few tricks it is not all that bad.
Ignition shielding was only installed on cars with optional radios/stereos. Cars without a radio did not need the shielding. Since the radio was an option, most of the shielding and diagrams of the installation is in the options section of the AIM. U69 section in my '68 AIM. Other years will be similar.
For some years, there are spark plug heat shields installed. Radio ignition shielding installs over the top of the plug heat shields.
To my knowledge, there is no heat shielding per se for the plug wires.
When you get down under there, you should also find small (two wire) plug cable looms for the plug cables. Two on each side if memory serves. These attach to the block.

My opinion, unless going for NCRS points is to abandon the stupid stock wire routing.
It is the worst design I can imagine.
If any oil/grease leaks, then the "boomerangs" catch the oil
and let the plug wires soak in it. When I pulled the wires for
the first time on my 75 ... they were swollen to about 10mm !!
For a driver (non points) ... get some aftermarket looms to hold the wires nice.
