There's a real high tech way to determine your clearance...take a block of silly putty or similar and ball it up and place it on the highest spot of the carb (tape it up first so nothing gets in the carb), close the hood. Then open the hood and measure the thickness of the compressed putty and you'll know your maximum clearance.

With all stock components, I'm guessing about less than 3/4", since Edelbrock warns that their RPM and Air Gap manifolds will not fit under stock sm. block hoods. (These manifolds are 3/4" higher than stock).
