Default Got Hydroboost?

Corvette Engineering is happy to announce Hydroboost!

This is a very popular upgrade and everyone that has it seems to really like it.

Available for both power brake and manual brake applications, the difference being the manual brake version comes with an adapter for the firewall.

I am still working on a line kit, waiting for a custom fitting. So for now your on you own for the lines, either talk to Durango Boy I think he has a way to do it, or get the line kit from http://www.hydraboost.com

Here's a thread about making lines

I only have a pic of the power version at this time, the manual version is the same but has a different adapter plate.

So does it run off of vacuum, or the power steering pump?

Is that a slide-on cover on the accumulator?

What modifications do you have to make to change from vacuum to the pump?

Some models of the Hydrobooster had a blue accumulator. The ones best suited for our C3s are gold. Hydratech sells a REALLY slick polished billet cover for $55.

All you need to change, is the Hydrobooster unit, new hydraulic pressure lines, and maybe some brake fluid and sweat.

Edit: A 1977 or later master, or a spacer, will be needed along with the above for the swap.

Can you get rid of the big vacuum tank on the driver's side?

Hey Kieth, just wanted to say thanks for helping people here to have a more "bolt on" solution. Not knocking the Hydroboost but the Wilwood manual master, calipers, and front rotors gave me great brakes. I can lock them at will and really don't notice the required effort.

Good to hear Gene, glad you like the setup.

Some people ( me included ) like manual brakes, some like power brakes.

So it looks like I would need the 77 vacume booster to make this work on my non-power breaks, not just the hydro booster alone. I'd like to see pics of this in a non-power break vette converted. I've gotten use to the manual breaks but sometimes in a panic stop situation I wish I had power breaks.

Yeah a '77 or later master or a spacer is needed. You can use your stock master but you'll want a spacer made to fill the gap.

There are a lot of members that have installed or are installing Hydros in their manual brake cars but I don't have any pictures on hand. Maybe they will see and post.

What's the advantage of hydro as opposed to just a stock power break conversion then?

The biggest advantage is losing the crap vacuum assist. Many guys with monster motors won't have much engine vacuum and it's not really enough to provide much assistance. On the other hand you have a power steering pump providing plenty of assist no matter the RPM or modifications made to the motor.

The booster itself has what my personal feel would call almost a 100% improvement over the vacuum assisted brakes.

The hydraulic booster is much smaller than the vacuum booster so you will never have valve cover clearance problems and you will actually have some spare room on that driver side.

The install is very easy minus opening up the power steering lines and making a mess.

Ok, but no power steering in my vette as well.
