Default Heater core

I have a 68 corvette convertible, which I have owned since it was new. One the connections from the heater core was come out of the core. How do I get at it to reattach (resolder ) it back in. Can the core come out from inside by taking off the panel in front of the passanger seat. I am a novice at this sort of thing, but am trying to learn more. Need HELP!!

Thanks

I did this job over the winter on my 68. I'll send you the photos tonight or you can run a search - I had a thread going at one point.

Here's a link to the old thread. I thought I had some better pictures in here, but I was mistaken. I will get some out to you tonight which show the heater box removed. Pretty easy job.

1. Get AIM
2. Pull dash and cross bar supports (the full dash removed gives you access to some small screws behind the center bezel which are hard to see/reach)
3. Remove four (or five) nuts from the engine bay which secure the heater core to the firewall. Also remove heater hose clamps and heater hoses - be ready for some coolant to spill out.
4. Remove plug from back of heater core box inside the cabin under the dash and remove the duct work attached to the heater box.
5. Gently pull heater box back at a slight angle to the left and wiggle it back and forth until the box disattaches from the fire wall on the inside.
6. Pressure test new heater core before installation.
7. Replace seals in heater box (or just reuse old ones like I did)
8. Set in new heater core and reverse removal steps to get the sucker back in

See? Piece of cake

If you have A/C this job is a PITA. If no air, the core can easily be reached via the engine compartment. Now that I've done it a few times, its a half hour job on my 74.
Word of advice, you'd be better off to get a replacement core. Be sure to get it pressure tested before you install.
