Missouri replacement VIN tag?
Looking at a 69 on ebay, and noticed there is a State of Missouri VIN tag on the dash...a replacement?
Anybody know what situation would result in this?

The car has a story, something like stolen, rebuilt, salvage at some point in its life.

State issued VIN's do effect resale value. Exactly how much depends on a lot of other factors.

Most dealers shy away from blemished vins or titles,
From what i have seen the more rare and or sought after the less blems effect price, isnt rogers zl1 a theft recovery with a reissued vin and it didnt hurt that cars value any......

That number looks (oddly enough) like a genuine GM VIN. I have to wonder if the car was stolen, stripped, and rebuilt with the state issuing a VIN when they proved what the factory VIN was. I'd be nervous if a dealer was trying to sell, as above, most dealers don't want anything to do with something other than a genuine VIN.

Safe, legal, well and good etc, i learned that the majorty here have huge issues with blem titles or vins, some will tell you to them the vehical is worthless,
Oddly, the mindset will not work to my favor, i offered my non blem 69 convertible in even swap for a midyear convertible of comparable condition with the exception of the midyear has a blem title or vin and not one taker....lol.

I can't count how many times I've clicked on car ads with prices that seemed a little low, only to read further down in the ad, Rebuilt/Salvage title. Lots of reasons for those, but I personally wouldn't purchase one unless it was intended as a track car or similar purpose.

FWIW: I didn't say a Salvaged title doesn't effect value, as we all know it does to one degree or another. I was just saying that from a legal ownership status a state issued VIN/title is as safe as any other title as the paper trail to ownership has been established, documented and certified by the state.

I don't think so. It's at a Las Vegas Lotus dealership. It looks to be a nice car...overpriced I think, but nice. Almost exactly what I'm looking for. But I always try to consider factors that might affect resale. Even if the replacement VIN is just a perceived fault, I'd rather find a car that's got no "issues".

Old VIN tag could have fallen off or rusted off.. or removed due to rusted windshield frame repair. the valid state procedure would be to affix a new VIN tag. I have seen that just as often as totaled/salvaged/flooded/theft recovery.
not necessarily hanky panky on a state issued vin.. and yes, it is a state issued valid titled car. no reason to scare a buyer away as long as he pays the right price.
researching the title should be a part of every buyer's diligence when buying a car.
