Default 1969 barn find

Ok so its not a barn find but its a garage find. I have a 61 vette that a neighbor of mine likes. She is a older gal that is widowed now. She told me she has a corvette in her garage too that her husband never got running. I went over to her house to look at it and I found a 69 sitting under a bunch of boxes. It looks like hell. The color is gold and a tan interior. The part about it that I found intresting is the side badges. 427, now I looked under the hood and its a big block. The car is a automatic too. I was wondering how do I tell if its a real big block or not? I need help.

I am not sure if 69's are the same but I know all 71 big blocks had a rear stabilizer bar. also you could check the engine/emission decal just above the brake booster. not sure if they had that in 69 though, good luck, if it is complete and an original big block it should be worth 5K

Try to at least get the prefix/assy date/ suffix info off the block. A cast number, or at least the last 3 digits would be nice, too. The casting date, or at least its configuration (does it end in 9 or 69?) would also help.

Check the console plate (at the shifter) to see if it has "427" info on it. Not a sure thing, but...

The hood is a big block hood? Try to see if it is an add on. Not an L88 style, right?

Check the redline on the tach.

Pics of the underhood at different angles, and undercarriage front & back.

Big Blocks had two large openings just behind the front grills and in front of the chin spoiler. This was for added cooling for the engine.

IMO it is a good deal with big or small block ... for 5K, I'd even buy it without a block

How much do you think it would cost to bring this car back to clean driver quality? Show quality? Once you do that calculation, you can determine if $5K is a good deal or not. I'm betting the car is a genuine factory 427. If so, NADA says it's worth $41,350 average retail value. That seems a little high but I'd be willing to bet low $30Ks.

All '69's had those openings, BB or SB. It was a Zora quick fix to the overheating problem.....
