Default Stolen Differential

Well I pulled the diff out a couple months ago and took it to a shop up in Duluth, GA. The guy did a great job on my Pontiac 400 heads and he seemed like an alright guy until ...... I never heard from him again.

I have called and called and can't get a call back. I even sent a co-worker up there today to find that he's still in business. I called him today to tell him that he can just keep the rear end. It's a 3.08 and when it get it back it will still need yokes.

You get some real jerks in this world.

Well.....I can buy one cheaper at this point than he's going to gouge me. It's his loss, not mine. He's got time and money in the rebuild and a 3.08 isn't exactly highly sought after.

I forgot to mention that it's a 60 mile drive out of my way to go to his shop.

You really should send him a tube of Vasoline along with a note to inform him of it's correct use and the proper "insertion" procedure.

Yeah...I hear ya. I'm just frustrated....I've had the car for a little over a year and have driven 500 miles. Just when I thought I was moving to put it back on the road, this happens.

Oh well....there's a big God in the heavens that is not happy about this.

How about posting the business name here so that nobody else here in GA uses this guy?
Sorry for your loss.

Peace

I have no idea. The last time that I spoke with him was when he told me that it would be ready in a couple of days. I have never heard from him again. What he did was change the clutch pack and bearings and setup.

One of the problems at this point is - I can't trust him. I would even want it back after all of this BS. He would probably jack up the price and God knows what else to the diff.

I am out no money. He is for his time and parts. If he would have charged me ...say 750.00.....I can spend less on one elsewhere....maybe even go to a 3.23 or 3.55.

What you wrote here makes no sense at all. He's got your rear-end, is suppose to rebuild it and because he's behind on it, you tell him to keep it? When you finally got in touch with him, why didn't you just simply ask him when he would be finished? 60 miles is nothing in distance by the way.
Then you turn around and say it will be cheaper to buy a new one?

I'm confused.

You gotta be careful on a legal stand point here. He may be an ***, but you agreed to a service. He can legally request payment for his services unless you can show a breach of contract (which you very well might be able to do). Don't ignore this, get your diff back, if it isn't done still take it and don't pay him. Find out if he even still has it. Oh, and report it to the bbb.

This story doesn't make a lot of sense to me ... how long has it been since you've heard from him? Sixty miles really isn't that far, go up there, pay him for his work, and get your rear end back. If he's not done, pay him for what he has in it and take it as is.

Something sounds fishy here, but it's not the shop ... it's you. I mean no disrespect, but your story just doesn't add up. It sounds to me like you just don't want to pay more to repair this one than it would cost you for a new one, regardless of how long the shop is taking. If I'm wrong then I apologize, but maybe you can clarify this whole thing because I doubt I'm the only one looking at this thead and thinking something doesn't add up...

Well, a lot of it is me I humbly admit....you are correct. I had a lot going on yesterday as far as personal matters go and this didn't help. As of this thread I had NOT spoken with him for over 3 weeks. 60 miles is a lot for me to drive to only to possiblly find that the shop is locked up and no one there. I have called numerous times over that period of time and left numerous messages with no reply.

Money wasn't a problem, just time and getting a rear end for the Corvette.

I do have good news though. I made the drive this morning to his shop and talked with him. He's so slammed with work that he's not even been checking his messages. He was very apologetic. The diff was on his bench and it will be ready by the weekend. He's a machine shop and is nothing like a car repair center that has to have good customer service.
