Default what should I do?

Well I pulled the trigger and pulled the motor out of my Vette.
Now the question is do I build up my 350 or spend the extra money and make her a 383 stroker?

Are all Vettes 4 bolt mains?

not all vette motors are 4-bolt mains

if you are interested, keep your stock motor as is and store it if it's the original motor. A friend of mine is pulling the 383 stroker motor out of his '65 and is building himself a new motor to put in. It's only been in the car about 2 years but he gets bored and builds up and changes motors about every year or two anyway. He is selling the 383 as a long block if you are interested.

When you pull the trigger you'd always want to shoot the biggest bullet (just to be sure)...

If I was doing it and had the extra money I'd make it a 383 stroker. If money isn't the issue I'd go LS-1 for sure.

Your L48 is a 2 bolt. Build a 383 out of a used block.

Are all Vettes 4 bolt mains?
Most SBC Vettes are not 4 bolt mains. They are reserved for the SB SHP engines built after about '69 or so. None of the 327's were ever 4-bolt mains. It isn't a big factor in the vast majority of streetable engines. Don't let that be a deciding factor in your build.

As for the "stroke or not"? question - easy. If your block will be getting a bore job, it is time for the stroker. The cost to add the stroker crank to the build is minimal when you take into account that you have avoided the cost of the 350 crank grind and polish. Use that money on a new 3.75" stroke crank. All the rest of the costs are about the same. You will gain some HP from the added displacement AND a LOT more bottom end tire spinning torque.

-Mark.

My Budget is about is about 7 thousand.

I could build up my 350 and stay under budget or go the other road and go 383 stroker but I know I will get close to 10 thousand all said and done and I will have to rebuild my rear and changes my torque converter

It would be a stretch on my wallet but I could manage. I would have to write myself one of those credit card checks. I have to look into what the APR would be and the overall transaction charge. Which I guess would be at least 3%

It would be tough financially but I know I would be satisfied with the results. My fear would be to put all that money into rebuilding my stock 350 and then I would be board of it quickly

I did just buy my first house and I’m in over my head already but at least I would have a bad azz car.

The other thing is I’m not sure how much horse power I will get out of building up the 350

I’m sure I could get close to 500 HP with the 383

Don't go the 383 route if you are just going to do a "basic" build to it. Just rebuild the 350 to original condition. If you ever sell the car, that will add value...a modded 350 [basic] or a 383 with merely a new crank and pistons won't net you more money. On the other hand, if you want to throw some money into the motor, by all means, do the 383 (or bigger).

That budget includes the motor, new torque converter, rebuilt rear, new trailing arms and wheel baring assemblies.

there is no substitute for cubic inches (and a little extra compression).....BBC!

I have a friend that owns a machine shop and he has all kinds of engines in storage ready to rebuild and completed ones, too. I would call around a few machine shops in your area and see what they have ready to drop in or ready to rebuild and sell - you never know what you are going to find. Put the word out and see what comes knocking at the door.
