'71 ZR2 @ Barrett-Jackson: High bid?
With all the hoopla surrounding the new ZR1, what do you think the ZR2 will fetch on the block?
I'm guessing $375k...

Dan,
That's certainly one lot #(1290) that I'll be interested in watching. That War Bonnet yellow coupe was at B-J's building on consignment for awhile at 475K. I think your guess is pretty close.
I saw this car at the NCRS national in Bend, OR in 1989.

Warren,
My initial gut said around $400-plus for the car, but then after a bit more consideration, L88's are going in the mid $300 to $400k range and are the pinnacle of Corvette performance. It'll be fun to watch for us LS6/ZR/LT1 fans.

BJ publishes a run-sheet on their website that lists Lot#'s in sequence. A lot of cars are squeezed into the que along the way, so you just have to guess-timate when a car is coming-up based on it's sequence number. Lot#'s are shown in the on-screen graphics for each car.
As with all auction houses, they try to hit "prime time" on Friday and Saturday with the best/highest estimated sale cars and will run the order accordingly. (prime time = when cocktails are flowing at highest volume on Friday and Saturday!).

Hammerhead Fred,
I'm not aware of this car being auctioned before, but it has been for sale and probably at the 395K you mentioned.
I don't know where those production figures come from, as of current, the 1971 LS6 Corvette Survey/Registry has verified 6 of the original 12 production built cars. Three are convertibles, and three are coupes. This is certainly a rare car...and one that I would love to own! I have bid on two other LS6 ZR2 cars in the past at auctions but was always an underbidder.
These cars are like the '69 ZL-1 Camaros, very stealthy in sheeps clothing...all the racing goodies are in the engine bay, undercarriage and chassis, not much visible signs of a SHP model.
Total '71 Corvette LS6 production is 8 cars short of the '68,'69 L-88 production of 196 vs 188.

If it didn't get $395K in '05, it sure won't get that much this year. Prices (like the economy) are way down. Also, B-J doesn't allow "reserves" on bidding now, so if it goes on the block, it will be sold. My guess this year is no higher than $300K. It will be interesting to see what happens.

...if I were a very wealthy man, it'd be mine.
...but seeing as I'm not, I do not need to worry 'bout it.
....You'd think for $400K, they could at least have the side interior "vent *****" properly aligned(LOL).

Maybe they thought the new owner might like to work on it themselves!

I saw the car last night. It's pretty clean and a nice resto job. Looks like the started with roller and no motor, by the discovery photos. It was hard to tell.
There is also a nice 68 427 green car going across the block. Not perfect, but a easy $100K car.
Had great time and even got on camera by accident. My sister in SC called and asked if I happened to be holding a beer. I asked how did you know that, she said your on tv right now. Nobody tell my boss.
