EGR Valve: To be or not to be (w/Pic)
Here's what I took off:

Here's where i'm at now:

I plan to put a Holley 750 DP or 770 Avenger (or if you have any other suggestions, please let me know). However, my question is if it is common pratice for people to have bought intakes w/EGR? Should I have?

When I had my '78 L82, I installed an Edelbrock Performer intake w/o EGR. I reused the Q-Jet and removed whatever other plumbing related to the EGR and the car ran much better as well as a bit cooler. Another benefit was a much cleaner looking engine compartment.
If your state doesn't require emissions testing on cars over 25 years old, and you're not concerned about NCRS standards, I say remove yours. Many, if not most, do so. You're removing parts that can complicate tuning and are potential trouble spots.
All that being said, a car running well with properly operating EGR and related equipment is better than a poor running car without all that.

I struggled with this when I ordered my intake and ended up dropping the EGR. I may regret this as it is required to be emissions legal. Fortunatley, my intake comes with a thermal choke block off plate that I can adapt to hold a dummy EGR which may fool the less educated emissions cops.
