Put the switch in yesterday. Took a little over an hour. You need to remove the reverse rod & lever off the tranny. This makes it easy to connect the switch pushrod and connect the tiny wire retainers. Also connect it to the switch before you mount the switch. Next mount everytrhing back in place finger tight and tested. First attempt the backup lights didn't light up. I pulled the harness plugs apart and repluged them untill it made a snap sound and now they work! Here's a few pics underneath.
Here's the harness plugs. Green & pink wires.
Thanks for posting that, it will definitely help when I go to do the same on my 79.
Sure. Seems this is a common Bubba blunder.
Took a few trial fits to figure out the pushrod orientation. The AIM shows the bends pointing to the tranny which places it out too far.
My inspection is due by end of March and wanted this working, though I passed last year, one less thing to worry about.

yep, this is a definate "to do" on my list, i have had the dang switch for months now sitting on my workbench. Thanks for the pics and the posting ! Very helpful.
thanks - very helpful. i'd like to get this done before dropping the body. Where did you get the switch?
From this place on ebay. Very nice guy. He told me he tests every switch before he sends them. Bought the switch & mounting hardware. Came out about 10 bucks cheaper then any of the vendors. Once I put in my bid for the listed prices, took a week, but no other bids pushed the price up since it's not a high demand part. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/63-67...em140216181044

No problem. Now if I could only get the right side reverse bulb out both would light up!
