Default Waxing

I got my car painted and it was completed @Jan 1. Should I even bother waxing the car or just leave it alone? Is it better to put a coat of wax or paint sealant on or just leave it alone.

if everything else is done such as wet sanding for orange peel and buffing i would get a coat of wax on it.

The best thing for a newly painted car is not to put a wax down right away, but to put a glaze on it. This is safe for all clear coats. It will act as a wax however protecting the paint from small partials and sunlight. It will also let the paint breath which is important for a new paint job. I recommend using Meguire’s #5 car glaze. It applies very nice and doesn't leave any dry flakes wiping it off. You'll be amazed at the glass like look you'll get from it.

You should wait awhile. A lot depends on the drying booth and method the paint shop used. If the paint hasn't completely cured, sealing or waxing will be harmful.

I had a car painted last year and the shop manager told me that while their drying booth cures it probably 95-98% by the time it comes out of the booth, he suggested waiting at least 2-4 months before waxing. I waited longer than that.

I'm sure your car looks great and waiting a bit would be prudent.

Based on the date the paint should be fully cured if anything a pure caranuba wax would help with the UV rays.

Rule of thumb for an aftermarket paint job is 90 days since the cure temperature is less than OEM. So you can wax it now.

[My comment was related to the 'quality' {or lack of it} on paint from the factory in the 1970's.....not to the quality of your car's paint job. You were the one who mentioned the 'orange peel', not me.]
