Default Fire Extinguisher, where?

I need to place a small hand-operated fire extinguisher in my '71 (insurance requirement). Does anybody have a good idea of where to place it?

If you don't need to get it quickly mount in under the rear deck somewhere.
If you want to be able to get it QUICKLY because the car and your pants leg are on fire mount it vertically between the seats on the bulkhead behind the seats.
Regards,
Alan

I keep mine on the passenger side in front of the seat.
The bracket for it is tie wrapped to the seat rails, and then the
extinguisher is clipped to the bracket. It keeps it from moving around, and is out of the way of the passenger, but easy to get to immediately if I need it. Knock on wood...er...fiberglass.

I am going to steal a picture of Paul's 67, but I have the same unit in the same place, in front of the passenger seat.
My wife says it doesn't bother her at all when she sits in the pass seat.

I have a full size one in the compartment behind the passenger seat. Please don't get a purdy little one, they will run out fast and your Vette will burn to the ground

What kinda screws are you guys using to mount the bracket? Are you just screwing into fiberglass?

...just food for thought here, most guys have them in a rear compartment but then you go on a road trip or pull the tops out and where do you stack all your stuff...on top of the rear compartment.

I don't know about you but I've never had the time to unload a car during a fire...just something to think about.

Make sure you can reach the fire ext in about a heart beat from the driver seat - that's where you'll be when you'll likely need it in a flash!

I just moved the passenger seat up a little and put it just snug behind it - it doesn't move and easy to get to.

Default Fire Extinguisher

Everybody ought to have one onboard, and I probably need a better one. But for now I've found that a wide strip of "male" velcro glued to the side of the extinguisher works great. You can locate it anywhere there's carpet which gives you several choices. When I've got stuff in the rear storage area I move it to either just in front of the passenger's seat or as in the attached photo. When rear is empty I usually move it to just over the jack compartment.

I know it's a little rough on the carpet pile if you move it around a lot, but I don't plus my carpet is pretty old anyway.

If anybody has a recommendation for a very good quality but small fire extinguisher I'd like to hear it

I mounted mine to the front of the passenger seat. I made a bracket that tie wraps to the seat frame. That way it does not move around.
I tried the velcro route, but it seemed to move around a little more than I wanted.

Be sure to check "discharge" rates of these extinguishers....most are around 12 seconds....something to consider...
