1972 Conv., 4spd., 350ci
I need Help!
According to my trim tag code E14 (Page 3) and build sequence numbers 509636(page 118 of NCRS manual & Judging Guide) my 1972 Vette was built the 14th day of December 1971. My problem is typing in the correct info on the blue certification label before affixing to the"upper rear driver's door jamb". According to the Third Edition of the 1970-72 NCRS Tech. Info. manual & Judging Guide, "beginning in at least January of 1972, labels have axle loading and gross vehicle weight" GVWR ---- GAWR: FRT ---- REAR ----. plus VIN number & month and year. However if a vehicle was built prior to Jan 1972, then the label need only have typed VIN number and month and year of production.
Am I correct in assuming, although my Vette is a 72 built in Dec. of 1971, I need only type in the VIN number and month and year of production. If not, can someone supply me with the 3 weight numbers I need.
Last but not least, where the h--l do I find a typewriter?
Thanks

the information was embossed from the protecto-plate that came with each car, I understand that if you can find an old IBM selectomatic typewriter with the correct font ball (they were removable)you can approxamate the type font on the blue certification label.Mine is from a late build (July of 1972) coupe.the weights and dimensions should be the same as yours

The almost impossible thing for you to do is to 'find' original cars built around the time yours was built to see if they have the weight on the tag or not.
There are some things that I check on 71s that I've been looking at for 15 years.
There is a thread on the NCRS Tech Board right now about imprinting Certification Labels. ( You can read even if you're not a member, I believe.)
Regards,
Alan

Thank you all for your input, but I still don't know which label format to use since my build date is 12/71 and the label I see here is 1972. Apparently, prior to Jan. 72 the label info did not include the weight info.
Also, according to NCRS manual, there is a weight difference between the coupe and the convert. that I have. Anymore ideas?

hey Bronx boy,I was just over at the NCRS wedsite where there is a similar thread going on about the blue certification label. There is a lady named Reba Whittington, who I understand is very knowledgeable about this subject. Reba says that prior to Jan. of '72 ONLY the build date and vin number were printed on the label. The line that is on my label with all the weights on it would not appear on your label, she also states that the words "passenger car" would also not appear on your label.Where in the Bronx are you, I went to Cardinal Hayes high school ?

I have a 72 Vert born in Dec 71 - # 9550.
The blue lable has the month/year '12/71' in the upper right hand corner, and the VIN along the bottom - no other info.
Hope this helps,
Mash

Yes. I can't tell on your's but on mine the VIN appears to be bolder than the month/year. But the placement, and font appear to be the same.
*EDIT* I just noticed on your's that it says '4-71' on mine it says '12/71'. I don't know if the '/' vs '-' means anything other than a personal preference of the person typing the data.

My '71 was built in Dec. of 1970 and the date on the cert tag is shown as 12-70 . I suspect that the tags stayed the same until January of 1972. I'm betting that they went from typed labels to printer-generated labels on 1-1-72. Even so, I don't think the 12/71 date should cause you any concern; I doubt that 10% of NCRS judges would know the difference.

yep , mine is a 1/72 and mine has the date, the weights, and the vin across it... looks like the first pic that I previously referenced by another poster....
my Vin is 11721, if that helps.
