News Article about a C3 Restoration
My neighbor called my attention to the following article about a high school senior's 1980 Vette. I guess I missed the posts during the rebuild. Would love to see pics of the car!

I have different feeling on it. Stupid kid just walked up there and bought it with out looking at any thing and with out researching common problems kind of like the first 30 sec. of the vid below. And his parents let him. The sales man is the biggest a-hole for selling that car to that kid. We all know he knew all about the problems.
And then they rebuilt his car for him instead of donating to a good charity like they said they used to.

My daughter played a softball game against Pennsville back in May. I took my '79 down to watch the game. When I pulled into to parking lot, I saw this car... It still needs paint.
I didn't realize that it was a frame off, or even had a story behind. If I did, I would have checked it out even more.

I'm gonna have to agree with Dodge on this one; that's
I first fell in love with the C3 when I was 14, started working as a Host in a restaurant at 16, and saved up $11,000 till I was 18. Hard work & dedication is all it took, and it made me appreciate it all that much more. Who in their right mind's gonna drop $4,500 on a vette & expect to walk away with a "driveable" corvette for a sustainable ammount of time? Not me, even at that age! Kid should have done some research--not to mention his parents shoulda known a little better!
So great, let's have the kid not learn a life lesson early...

Just one question... Is this not the condition you would expect an 80 Vette to be in for $4500?
I payed $6k for mine and while mechanically sound, I probably have about $3000 or more in it now between interior and other mechanical items, mods, etc and other things that have just broke along the way.
If he payed $15k and had a lemon, then I might feel differently. In fairness I've only glanced at the article. I'll have to give it a closer look.

Drifting
Sounds to me like a bunch of corvette enthusiasts helping another out...whatever money they raised was theirs to spend as they saw fit. No starving children in Africa were harmed in the repair of this corvette.

I would like to see someone submit a story about stinger12 he’s 18 and doing it all himself and doing it the right way. Now that is a story!!!! I’ve got a couple of 18 year old daughters and I cant get them to hang a picture by themselves.
It was nice of the club to help out, that’s what I would like to think all corvette guys would do.

When I first read this thread, I read the OP's post and clicked on the story link before reading all of the other responses. When I read that the kid purchased the car for $4,500 (which was his "life savings"!) the thought that immediately crossed my mind was "Any Vette that sells for $4,500 is a fixer - how the hell is this kid going to afford all the repairs it's gonna need?".
So, like most of the rest of you:
1) I hope the kid learned a life lesson
2) I hope the kid's parents learned a life lesson (but I doubt it)
3) I'm glad that the kid was helped out by fellow Corvette enthusiasts, but I bet there were "more worthy" projects they could have donated their time and money towards

Safety Car
I read about it in Corvette Enthusiast. I think it was a nice thing for Barry and the club to do. You never know how it will come back to benefit someone else.
