Battery chargers/ tenders..
I need some recommendations on a charger/tender. I want something that will tell me how much juice is in the battery and wont over charge it. What should I look for?

I used "Tenders" before & had them overcharge/ruin batteries.. What I did after this happened was to plug the trickle charger into a regular house timer (like you would use for lights when you went on vacation) & set it to charge for about two hours a day. Very low charge into the battery and not consistent so it would not overcharge. I have not had any problems since & I have several vehicles that I do this with... Start right up even after months of storage...

Get a Battery Tender Plus. It's as close to plug-in and forget as you can get. When the battery charge gets down to 80% it kicks in and brings the charge back up. If you screw up and connect it backwards it won't hurt anything. An excellent product.

I got one from Lectric limited Inc. called Battery butler and is an excellant unit. It's a 12 volt 1.5 amp float charger which only kicks on if the battery voltage drops. Part number BBFC100 www.baterybutler.com
It has long leads on both the power unit and leads to clip onto the battery so nothing sits against your car, clip on and just lower the hood so the light goes off.

I use a Battery Minder...actually two. But whatever you select, you're looking for a microprocessor that can assess when the battery is fully charged and stops charging. Most offer this, like those named above, but just check.
I select the Battery Minder because of cord lengths and the unit hangs from the wall outlet instead of laying up on a fender or dangling from the floor. Here's link:

I bought mine at Autozone for $31.99, had it for over a year and it works like a charm. I have my battery hooked up whenever I'm not driving the car and it keeps my battery at 100% all the time and does not overcharge it by going into a float mode when it reaches full capacity. http://www.autozone.com/selectedZip,.../selectZip.htm
