3000 or tow it away for free, either way a plus/minus 3000 initial expenditure will not matter much in the total cost of the project..
if I found a car i wanted, +/- 3000$ would not matter.. but this one is too much labor..

Run Forrest Run....

I had a similar rust bucket I sold. I was in way over my head with time and cost issues of the project. I set my price and sat back and waited. eventually a rich boy came and bought it. if you are on a budget, then buy one that is done or almost done for a third of what this will cost you to finish.

I have to admit though, the seller was very upfront about the rust issues, and was not trying to hide anything. Ill commend him for that

I have to agree with Joewill. Even if it was free it's still too expensive.

If you've got the talents to do the work yourself, consider what can he part the car out for reasonably, and make him that offer if you'd be happy paying that. Don't worry about insulting the guy, the car needs tons of work and he knows he's very limited on what he's going to get for it.

It's the wrong car, The labor on a 58 is the same as an 81, My 72 was purchased for 3K, I have 27K into it with most of my own labor. Yikes! It's a lose in most peoples eyes. But my car has a story. Just the wrong car. find another car that will have more value in the end.

what about for a parts car? A car to buy and then sell the parts and make some money?

Only if you get it cheap enough.
At $3K, you'll lose your shirt or be lucky to break even.

If you want to part it out, offer a grand or nothing.
If you want to fix it up, Run away.

I agree I just bought a 81 in Feb and didn't pay but 8 for it and it only had 79K at the time and is cherry as far as the frame and I still invested 2K just trying to get it to my expectations, T Tops, stereo, computer system etc. so if it were me go ahead and spend the extra and get one ready to drive.

If its an origional auto car thats not a 1981. 81 autos had a composite spring. Maybe its an 80'. Eather way. Needs a new frame at best.

There is a lot of your time and effort needed to recover the cost of the car if you buy it to part it out as a parts car.. If that is the plan, then consider what extra parts are thier and what you think you can get for it after shipping.

The car itself needs a new frame and birdcage. I would pass on this as a project.

Even if you get it cheap as a parts car do you have a place to store it and the time to strip it plus entertain the public that wan't to haggle over every Penney to buy a ****.

Frame rails and A pillar rust, I would skip this car unless you get a great price of $1000 ~ $1500

If i do get this price, i would still be parting it out anyways. If im going to do a frame off restoration, its gonna be on my first vette, or a chrome bumper car

Only worth about $1k for a parts car IMO. Thats ONLY if you have time and space to strip it. The entire birdcage is toast and he trashed a lot of fiberglass getting to the point it is now. There are some good parts but you got to find a buyer, otherwise they are just dust collectors. If your plan is a project then move on.

I wouldn't pay more than $1k for it. Plus with this economy there are plenty of deals out there. Keep looking!

Some early 81s had leafs, mine does. From the rust patterns it looks like it been either stored with the windows down, tops out or been in water.
81 parts aren't really bringing a premium. It looks like a few body panels could be salvaged and maybe a few odds and ends.
Getting 1K back out of it may be time consuming, not only for dismantling but also finding buyers.

Good luck whichever way you go.
